Topic
Model development should be conducted with a clear understanding of how a model will be used to evaluate policy alternatives. Typically, it is not appropriate to apply a model to policy alternatives when it was not designed or tested for that particular use. Recent development of the Oregon State-Wide Integrated Model (SWIM) serves as an example of using scenarios to test model performance in the final phase of development. Development of the new model was based on anticipated analysis and past use of the first generation model. Oregon scenarios using the first generation model will be shared. An overview of the next generation model development will be presented, including scenarios used to test model responsiveness.
